Undervalued QB: Ryan Tannehill

It's hard to imagine a world in which Ryan Tannehill doesn’t finish the season as a QB1.
Since taking over as the starter of the Titans in week 7 of 2019, only Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have scored more points — In 26 starts with Tennessee, Tannehill has scored 20+ points, 21 times (80%). He also made major strides as a runner, adding 266 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Points scored in weeks since Tannehill became Titans starter.
It would’ve been fair to expect a dip in Tannehill’s elite efficiency when the Titans lost WR Corey Davis, TE Jonnu Smith, and OC Arthur Smith to begin the offseason, but those worries went bye-bye with Julio Jones’ arrival.

We keep hearing about Julio Jones' injury history. Yet prior to last season Julio played 14+ games in 6 straight seasons, and the narrative that Jones is ‘washed up’ is flat out false. In 7 games that he played with a 75%> snap share (all his healthy games), he averaged 19 fantasy points. His 16 game pace was 1,370 yards.
Adding Jones into an offense with Derrick Henry and AJ Brown makes Titans legit Super Bowl contenders. Having three skill players going inside the top 40 in fantasy drafts and a team that's projected to be in the top 10 in projected wins is a big deal for a quarterback. If we are expecting those players and the team to do well, then we can most likely expect the same from their quarterback.

There are some lingering question marks surrounding an offensive line that ranked 17th in pass protection last season. Isiah Wilson, the first-round pick out of Georgia, never made it onto the field, and Tennessee decided to cut their losses on draft day. The Titans traded Wilson and a seventh-round pick in the 2022 draft to the Dolphins in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2021 draft. He was waived by the Dolphins three days later after showing up late for his team physical and missing two workouts. Tennessee will hope that second-round pick Dillon Radunz out of North Dakota State can fill the void at left tackle.
The only potential factor holding Tannehill back is Tennessee’s infamous ground-and-pound offensive game plan — The team has the fewest numbers of pass attempts over the past 3 seasons, but it hasn’t held him back to date. Despite ranking 31st in offensive pass percentage last year, Tannehill finished as fantasy’s QB7. His 90.6 PFF grade was 5th amongst QBs only behind Rodgers, Brady, Mahomes and Watson.
The bottom line — Ryan Tannehill is good at football, and a locked-in QB1 with top 5 upside. I anticipate his ADP will trend upwards as we near September, but as of right now, he is being undervalued.
